Chicago COVID Vaccine Today: Phase 1C Eligibility, Date by City Announced

CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago health officials will make an update to the city’s COVID vaccine distribution plan on Wednesday, even as vaccines are expanded to Group 1C.

The city will announce the start date of March 29 for its next vaccination phase. In 1C more essential workers are eligible, including hoteliers. construction, legislation, banking and the media, as well as Chicagoans ages 16 to 64 with severe health conditions.

“Broadly speaking, if you have an underlying disease, you can get a vaccine in April or May,” said Dr. Allison Arwady, director of the Chicago Department of Public Health.

During her regular Tuesday broadcast, Dr. Arwady also made it clear that seniors will continue to be the city’s priority for the rest of this month, but believes that as the supply of vaccines increases, the city is now in a position to open appointments wider segment of the population.

1C is the last priority group before vaccinations open to the general population.

This expansion is only announced for Chicago residents. The neck counties have not yet made their own decisions in this regard.

“Because we have vaccines available, we will openly open appointments to other groups,” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said.

There continues to be no significant increase in federal vaccine administrations. Next week’s combined allocation in Illinois and Chicago is just 1% higher than this week’s and 8% above last week’s deliveries, according to CDC data.

The governor is now considering easing restrictions, such as raising the current limit of 50 people to meetings in event spaces.

The governor could also call for a green light, reduce spacing requirements in restaurants, and include a community’s vaccination rate in reopening metrics, as requested by suburban mayors.

“It gives hope to people so they can look at something and say if we get to that level, we’ll have that now,” Darien Mayor Joseph Marches said.
