SAINT ANTHONY – A shooting at a church event on the East Side injured a 6-year-old boy and another man in critical condition, according to San Antonio police.
Filming took place Sunday afternoon at block 1000 of WW White and Martin Luther King Drive.
Chief McManus said an event was happening at the senior faith institutional church when a 24/25-year-old man, his girlfriend and son were in their vehicle and entered the church parking lot.
That was when a man hiding under a tree approached the vehicle, pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The 6-year-old received a shot in the shoulder, but is expected to be fine, according to McManus.
The man in the vehicle, who has not yet been released, was shot and critically injured.
McManus said the shot was aimed at the man in the vehicle and was not a random event.
The department is following directions to find the suspect and McManus said he hopes to close the case sooner rather than later.
Announcements
“All the violence in this whole city is crossing the line, but when you do it at a church event, that’s pretty much unprecedented. We’re not going to stop at anything to capture that individual,” McManus said. “This is not asked out of madness that someone is brazen enough to do it, on a Sunday afternoon, at a church event.”
The information so far is preliminary and subject to change. This is a developing story and we will be providing more details as they become available.
