The children are now in the care center at the coronavirus battle. Pfizer wants to extend its COVID-19 vaccine to those as young as 12 and has asked the FDA for permission to do so.
The request comes as children are believed to be key to the latest increase in COVID-19 cases, according to Michael George for “CBS This Morning: Saturday.”
“There is concern about broadcasting in youth sports, both in clubs and in sports affiliated with schools,” said CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
In Michigan, which leads the number of cases per day this week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has called for a two-week break in children’s sports, along with covered food.
“Life depends on it,” he said Friday. “Michigan is definitely a national hotspot right now.”
But in New York, Coney Island ceremoniously reopened.
“You can’t hear New York, you can’t understand unless you come to Coney Island,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

As schools want to reopen, the CDC has stressed the need to follow its safety guidelines.
“We have yet to see evidence of a significant transmission of COVID-19 in schools when schools have fully implemented the CDC mitigation guidelines,” Walensky said.
More than 68 million people, or about 20% of adults in the United States, are fully vaccinated and more than one in three Americans (just over 114 million people) have received at least one COVID shot.
There are reports of tiny percentages of adverse reactions. Each of the top three vaccine producers has reported that 1.1% of recipients have had remarkably low side effects.
