China is once again imposing coronavirus blockages on 20 million residents as cases begin to rise, reaching its highest daily count of cases in six months on Monday.
85 new Mondays symptomatic infection of local transmission cases and 42 similar cases on Tuesday reported by China’s National Health Commission have caused many areas of China to re-implement blockade protections ahead of one of China’s biggest holidays in February, the New Year Lunar.
Most of the closures occur near the northern part of China, where they live one of their coldest winters on record, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Many of the new cases are being seen in Bejing, the Chinese capital, in the northern province of Hebei.
One of the largest closures that occurred is Hebei’s largest metropolis, Shijiazhuang. They sent its 11 million residents to closure last Thursday.
Vice Mayor Meng Xianghong made one announcement that cars could not get out of the city and that rural areas have been weaknesses in their fight against the pandemic.
He said it was confirmed that some of the new cases correspond to people who have attended weddings and funerals.
The rise in cases comes almost a year after China’s closures in Wuhan, the starting point of the pandemic outbreak. Local governments are encouraging citizens to limit meetings and not travel, offering extra money to workers who do not travel for the upcoming holidays.
The city of Langfang on Tuesday imposed a one-week closure of its five million residents as tests are implemented across the city.
China has been using blockades to stifle the spread of the virus in its country, but there have been many international complaints about the lack of transparency in China’s cases. On Saturday, Premier Li Keqiang discouraged any under-reporting of total cases.
