Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reis broke COVID-19 protocols and will be out of the team.
Both players were sent home immediately and Cleveland is waiting for MLB news about when they will be allowed to return.
Reis cut his hair and then the two players ate together inside a restaurant. The two violations of MLB health and safety protocols determined prior to spring training.
Reyes also violated COVID-19 protocols before last year’s short season when he attended a July 4 event and was seen on social media without wearing a mask.
Ramirez finished second in the vote for the most valuable player last year after hitting 292 with 17 homers and 46 RBIs in 58 games.
Reis batted 275 with nine homers and 34 RBIs in 59 games.
