LOS ANGELES – With 30 games remaining in the season, the Dodgers have several reinforcements on the way from the injured list.
After Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin pitched in a simulated game Monday at Dodger Stadium, manager Dave Roberts said it had been a good day for the team.
“Tony threw two innings and looked really good. He was excited,” Roberts noted. “We’ll see how he responds. A three-innings internship for one of our subsidiaries is in his near future.”
Gonsolin entered the injured list for an inflammation in his right shoulder on July 31, in just his second month of campaigning after losing the first two to the same problem.
But the right to look good when entering the rotation in June. Gonsolin has nine openings in the year, in which it has effectiveness from 2.78 to 35.2 entries.
The other good news is that Kershaw’s return is approaching. The left-hander last pitched on July 3 in Washington, when he allowed three runs in four innings with three strikeouts.
“As for Clayton, he was fine. I’m optimistic and excited. He’s too,” Roberts said. “It was an inning, but it was enough. He threw a straight, a slider and a change and we were excited. The most important thing, in terms of the short term, will be to see how he reacts. Assuming he feels good and recover, we can speed up the process. But overall, it was a good day. “
Kershaw is eligible to return from the injured list on Sunday, but before that he will have to pass a couple more tests on his rehab list. Roberts said Kershaw, depending on his reaction, will perform another bullpen session and another mock game.
