CM Punk returns to professional wrestling at AEW Rampage

CM Punk returns to the world of professional wrestling.

After weeks of anticipation by the professional wrestling community, Punk once again made a thunderous standing ovation at AEW Rampage, which took place at the United Center in his hometown of Chicago.

Immediately after the opening of the show, people were already singing the name Punk. AEW wasted no time playing Punk’s “Cult of Personality” theme song, which plunged the crowd into a frenzy. At one point in his walk, Punk stepped into the stands to embrace a sea of exaggerated fans.

Check out the highlights below (via Twitter):

Punk, 42, stepped away from professional wrestling in 2014 as one of the business’s most popular competitors. Retirement ended a nine-year period with the WWE.

In December 2014, Punk signed with the UFC. After nearly two years of training under Duke Roufus under Roufusport, Punk made his MMA debut at UFC 203 in September 2016. He lost to Mickey Gall for the first round.

In June 2019, Punk returned to the cage and faced Mike “The Truth” Jackson at UFC 225 in Chicago. He lost a unanimous decision. However, the result was later annulled to a non-contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana.

Although Punk never officially announced his retirement from mixed martial arts, neither he nor UFC president Dana White indicated there would be a third fight on the cards. Punk remained on the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency test until the end of 2020.

Punk has served as a color commentator for the Cage Fury Fighting Championship, which has been airing its events on the UFC Fight Pass since late 2018.
