Cody Allen, the all-time leader for the Cleveland Indians, retires

Cody Allen, the race leader in rescue and relief appearances for the Cleveland Indians, has retired, the team released Wednesday.

“From the 23rd round draft pick to the franchise [king], “el The Indians posted on Twitter. “Congratulations on a great career, Cody. Happy retirement.”

Allen, who signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers before the 2020 season, did not pitch during the reduced pandemic season.

Written in 2010, Allen is the leader of Cleveland’s career as a lifeguard (149) and appearances (456) for seven seasons. He also had 564 attacks. The 32-year-old right-back had at least 30 stoppages in three consecutive seasons with the Indians from 2015 to 17, including 32 in 2016, when he helped the Indians win the AL pennant and reach the seventh game of the World Series.

After acquiring All-Star Brad Hand in a trade, the Indians chose not to re-sign Allen after the 2018 season. Allen was 0-2 with four stops and an ERA of 6.26 in 25 appearances to Los Angeles Angels in 2019.

Allen had a 24-31 record with an ERA of 3.14 and 153 savings in 481 games. He also had seven postseason stops.
