A recent scan revealed that Cody Bellinger has a hair fracture in his left fibula, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday.
Bellinger is out on April 5 with what was originally diagnosed as a bruised calf. Roberts said the latest development “hasn’t really changed the course of its schedule,” but did not want to speculate on a possible return date.
Earlier, Roberts told MLB Network that Bellinger could return in a week or two.
“I can comfortably say it’s not a day-to-day thing,” Roberts told reporters ahead of the opening of a series of weekends against rival San Diego Padres division. “We can just put him in the backburner, let Cody do his rehab and join us soon.”
Bellinger suffered the injury when Reyland Guduan, an Oakland Athletics reliever, stepped on his leg in a run to first base in the ninth inning of a possible worn-out Dodgers victory. Bellinger limped off the field, but initial tests revealed no structural damage.
Roberts expressed his encouragement for Bellinger’s progress earlier this week, but said he recently “reached the plateau,” prompting follow-up tests.
The course of Bellinger’s rehabilitation, which includes hitting and throwing, will not change due to the fracture of the hairline, said Roberts, who added: “He is simply rehabilitating himself daily and doing everything possible to accompany him. us as soon as possible. “
