In the event of a situation in which none of the top four teams can compete in the college football playoff due to COVID-19, the CFP has set preparation dates for the two semi-final matches and the national championship in January, tell CFN CFP executive director Bill Hancock. Wednesday.
Neither the teams nor the CFP have indicated that a change is needed, but if the two semifinal games need to be postponed, the CFP has headed to Jan. 11 for The Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One and on Jan. 12. January for the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The preparation date for the National Football Playoff Championship presented by AT&T is January 18, one week after the current date of January 11, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
If both teams in a semifinal are available, the game will be played as scheduled, even if the other competition is to be postponed. If a semifinal is delayed, the plan is to reschedule it for January 11th.
Alabama’s No. 1 and Notre Dame’s No. 4 are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Rose Bowl, followed by Clemson’s No. 2 against Ohio State No. 3 at the 8 p.m. at the Sugar Bowl.
“Everyone plans to play the games as scheduled,” Hancock said. “The teams, the school staff and the bowling staff have been working very hard to provide a chance for the players. There are COVID procedures in the hotels and stadiums. We have prepared thoroughly and we are prepared. But it always makes sense to be prepared, even for circumstances we don’t think will happen. “
Hancock said makeup dates were determined considering the Rose Bowl includes the tallest seed, Alabama.
If games were rescheduled, locations would remain the same, Hancock said. This year, the Rose Bowl is at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the Sugar Bowl is at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
“Of course, we’ll keep an eye on things and adapt if necessary,” Hancock said. “The bowling season has started exciting and we are planning for it to continue.”
