His. Susan CollinsSusan Margaret Collins: The media makes wagon rounds for conspiracy theorist Neera Tanden. (R-Maine) urged the Biden administration to review an order on U.S.-Canada border restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Collins published publicly Thursday’s letter.
“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, strict travel restrictions on land ports of entry between the United States and Canada have been in place for nearly a calendar year,” Collins he wrote.
“While I appreciate the need to limit non-essential travel to the United States to prevent further spread of COVID-19, these restrictions should reflect the levels of risk located at our border and allow for some common sense exceptions, such as visits to close relatives or local day-to-day trade in low COVID-19 transmission areas, ”he continued.
The letter arrives after DHS made a tweet on February 19th that the United States, Canada and Mexico extend restrictions on non-travel to their land borders until March 21, which would keep the restrictions in place for exactly one year.
To protect our citizens and prevent the spread of COVID-19, the United States, Canada and Mexico are extending restrictions on non-essential travel to our land borders until March 21st. We are also working to ensure that trade and essential travel remain open.

The restrictions were first agreed last March, but have been repeatedly expanded throughout 2020 as the pandemic accelerated and persisted.
Under current restrictions, Canadian citizens, those with dual Canadian nationality, and family members and partners may cross paths for non-essential purposes. The Associated Press reports.
