Colombia deploys frigates and fighter jets in naval exercises in the Caribbean

They were developed in the waters of the Archipelago of Sant Andreu, Providencia and Santa Catalina, in the Caribbean Sea, in order to increase joint operational capabilities.
These maneuvers are intended to warn Nicaragua of Colombia’s firm willingness to defend its sovereignty over the region, after National Assembly of Nicaragua created, on January 29, the so-called Nicaraguan Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, which includes marine and submarine spaces that Colombia recognizes as its own.

During the naval exercises, the FAC deployed a crew of three aircraft of the type IAI Kfir C10 / 12 COA (THAT), While the ARC participated with two light frigates of the Class Admiral Padilla, Performing real fire maneuvers during the development of the operation.
Additionally, the Naval aviation had an aircraft of the type Airbus (HOUSE) CN-235-200 Persuader, To strengthen patrolling in Colombian jurisdictional waters, detecting possible incursions of Nicaraguan ships into the archipelago, also increasing the strength of the Marines outstanding in the islands, small barren islands and keys, transporting these cash in one Amphibious Landing Boat BDA / BAL-C.
The permanence of these naval aircraft in the Islands will be given for as long as the Ministry of Defense consider it necessary.
