The plastic surgeon of Colombian nationality, Alejandro Chiappe Duarte, has today pleaded guilty to the three charges against him, for illegally practicing medicine on the island in a beauty salon, violating various provisions of the Law of the Board of Licensing and Medical Discipline of Puerto Rico.
According to the evidence presented by the Public Ministry, the surgeon traveled to the island during the months of March and April 2021 and settled in the beauty salon Posada Guapa Salon in Caguas.
From the salon, the surgeon performed multiple cosmetic procedures such as botox for wrinkles, filling, or “fillers” for the lips. In addition, this one examined the bust, abdomen and the glutes of several women, to whom it offered to realize cosmetic surgeries to him in Colombia for the correction or improvements.
Chiappe Duarte faces up to two to five years in prison and a $ 5,000 fine. The reading of the sentence was set for October 28, This was disclosed by the Department of Justice in a press release.
The prosecutor of the Division of Economic Crimes of the Department of Justice, Obdulio Meléndez Torra indicated that “in the Division of Economic Crimes of the Department of Justice we are very vigilant that the people who practice medicine on the Island comply with all the requirements and mandates of law. In this case, we managed to raise the evidence required to obtain the result announced today. “
Meléndez Torra was in charge of the investigation in collaboration with the special agent of the Department of Health, Maruxa Díaz Pagán.
For his part, the Secretary of the Department of Justice, Domingo Emmanuelli Hernández, has stated in written statements that “to ensure that any person who violates the law and the criteria required in Puerto Rico to practice medicine is prosecuted.
