There there was no face-to-face Comic-Con in 2020, nor will there be any until 2021 after the program organizers announced the decision to “postpone” it until 2022.
That is … a strange use of the word, as the Comic-Con in 2022 would simply be the Comic-Con in 2022, but perhaps there is a legal dispute involved in the exact language used in terms of insurance, and so on.
The following are the most important parts of the organizer’s statement:
The organization’s policy is to continue to closely monitor information from local and national health officials regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We could never have imagined what the world experienced in 2020 and still lives today. While we are deploying the vaccine implantation and the growing number of inoculated individuals, it looks like July will still be too early to safely celebrate a face-to-face event the size of Comic-Con. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Comic-Con 2021 as a face-to-face meeting until our 2022 dates.
Instead of a face-to-face event, there will be a Comic-Con @ Home event that will take place at the same time. And in more promising news, while the main Comic-Con has been launched in 2022, and there is room for a smaller show to be held in the middle as a kind of test:
… we believe that launching a smaller face-to-face event at a later time can be a safe alternative. For this reason, we are pleased to announce that the San Diego Comic Convention is scheduled to present a three-day face-to-face convention in San Diego in November.

There are several shows from 2021 have already been canceled, including Katsucon.
