Comparsa surprises Santurce as a greeting at the San Sebastián Street Festival

The theater group Aigua, Sol i Sereno celebrated a greeting at the Festivities of Carrer Sant Sebastià in a different way and in accordance with the situation that is crossing the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic: virtual through Facebook and YouTube.

On this first day of the series of events called “Virtual Greeting at the Festivities of Carrer Sant Sebastià 2021” tribute was paid to the artist, teacher, writer and political express, Elizam Escobar, Who died recently. In addition, a tadpole created in his honor was unveiled that was made this week at the Water, Sun and Serene workshop.

The first part of the festival was a combination of original music created with texts from Escobar’s writings, dance, poetry and performance to honor the life of the finite artist.

“Today we pay special tribute to a dear friend who has just died… who always lived free despite the 20 years he lived in prison, Elizam Escobar “, announced Pere Adorno, director and co-founder of Aigua, Sol i Sereno.

The second part of the show consisted of a tour of the workshops of Aigua Sol and Sereno, in Santurce. Stilt walkers and bigheads joined Héctor “Tito” Matos and the group La Màquina Insular to perform in the streets of the Trastalleres de Santurce sector.

This was the first of three troupes scheduled for this weekend and the next, which they have called “Virtual Greeting at the 2021 San Sebastian Street Festival”.

Adorno stressed that, although this year was different due to the health situation experienced as a result of the pandemic, the spirit of celebration has not diminished and therefore, the theater community that has always “said present in activities of justice and village activities “could not miss such a special date for Puerto Ricans.

The activity will continue next weekend, When on Saturday 30 January at 5:00 pm a tribute will be paid to musician Héctor “Atabal” Rodríguez with a troupe that will come from another place in San Juan and will include the participation of the musician’s son, Caymmi Rodríguez and the group Atabal.

While on Sunday, January 31, at 3:00 pm, Water, Sun and Serene will pay tribute to anthropologist and historian Ramón López.
