HOUSTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has filed indictments against President Donald Trump. This comes a day after a pro-Trump uprising on Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol.
Jackson Lee, a senior member of the Judiciary, Homeland Security and House Budget Committees, said in a statement: “Our Constitution was written as a guide to governing our democracy and protecting it from authoritarian and tyrannical control. It also serves as a tool to protect our nation from domestic and foreign enemies who seek to harm our Republic. At this point in our history, our constitutional ancestors are crying out for us to use the tools provided in this ageless document. Yesterday we saw how domestic enemies incited violence and invaded the village house with intent to harm. Enough is enough! The president has completely lost the moral authority he had and is inadequate as commander-in-chief. His actions to incite violence against his own government and against the entire Congress justify his removal from office. And if the officials of the Administration refuse to invoke the 25th Amendment, I will continue with the articles of legal accusation to dismiss him from office for the following reasons: “
“Donald John Trump has actively and continuously strived to undermine the essential institutions and foundations of a democratic system of government in the United States, participating in a long train of abuse and usurpation, invariably pursuing the same object, demonstrating a design for to become an inexplicable authoritarian ruler and independent of the citizens of the United States by:
- Request and welcome the assistance of a hostile foreign power to help him win the 2016 US presidential election.
- Refuse to acknowledge Russian interference in U.S. internal affairs and then oppose responses by Congress and the executive branch to protect U.S. national security and interests from future Russian interference and aggression.
- Publicly conveying his interest and willingness to accept the assistance of foreign powers in his attempt to win re-election as President of the United States.
- Continuingly refusing to acknowledge the American people that they would accept and be bound by the verdict handed down in the 2020 presidential election, instead of claiming that any result in which they did not declare themselves winner was fraudulent, manipulated and illegitimate.
- Take active steps to prevent and undermine the ability of U.S. citizens to convey their disapproval of their continued tenure by exercising their rights as voters, including misuse of the U.S. postal service to prevent timely delivery of votes by mail.
- Initiate frivolous lawsuits to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, falsely alleging large-scale voting fraud but without producing evidence in support of its spurious allegations.
- Urging and urging his supporters to falsely believe that he had been robbed of victory in the 2020 presidential election and that constitutionally required the joint meeting of Congress in order to count the votes of voters and the announcement of the result by the President of the Senate it was illegitimate and intended to complete the theft of his victory.
- Failure to take steps to protect and defend federal officers and personnel, property, buildings, and institutions on January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol besieged by supporters of Donald John Trump, leading to significant damage to U.S. property. and the death of at least four people.
“As the resolution points out and makes clear, a person” whose character is marked by all acts that may define a tyrant is not fit to be the ruler of a free people “and guarantees dismissal and dismissal as President of the United States “.
