Some media conservatives have highlighted a controversy sparked by an editorial in The Wall Street Journal, in which the incoming first lady Jill Biden drops “Doctor” from her title.
In an article published Friday, columnist and short story writer Joseph Epstein argued that Biden’s doctor’s name feels “sound and fraudulent, not to say a touch comic” because he did not have a medical degree.
Biden received his doctorate in education from the University of Delaware in 2007.
Critics blasted the article, saying Epstein’s comments were sexual, unfair and insulting.
Biden responded to the debate on his topic in a tweet on Sunday, saying, “Together, we will create a world where the achievements of our daughters will not be diminished.”

Also, you can take all the classes for Ed at Ula Delaware online. GRE not required, GPA only 2.75. I don’t think you can even come to Kennedy School with that. https://t.co/OnssN8oDbg

Conservative pundits point to the chapter as an example of what they say is a quick characterization of the political left.
“I’m sorry. A white woman in her late 60s should stop calling herself a doctor because she’s not a real medical doctor, it’s not sexual. It’s not,” commentator Ben Shapiro said on his show on Monday.
Paul Gigot, the editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal’s opinion department, backed the publication of this section on Monday, saying it was a “minor issue”.
“Why go so far as to highlight a single version on a relatively minor issue?” Kigot said. “My guess is that the Biden group decided it was an opportunity to use the big gun of identity politics to send a message to critics as they prepare to seize power. There’s nothing like playing race or gender card to block criticism.”
