the doctor Jesus Valverde, President of the Peruvian Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Warned that for several days there is no availability of ICU beds. In an interview with RPP Notícies, he noted that, although the Situation Room of the Ministries of Health mentions that there are four available, he specified that this information only focuses on COVID cases.
“We in our internal channels have permanent communication about what is happening in the country. Several days ago we were reporting that we do not have Intensive Care beds. What the Situational Room reports are COVID patients, nothing more, and we work on two fronts : COVID and not COVID “, he pointed out.
Valverde noted that the country currently has about 1800 ICU beds to care for these two types of patients. He also indicated that in case any ICU bed is vacant, “the vacancy time is about an hour because there is a long waiting list in each hospital.”
“Our occupation at the moment is 100%, both in the public or private part. We know our reality, we know our maximum capabilities that we can offer in ICU care. The strategy we are proposing is to work in beds hospitalized, ”he reiterated.
Earlier, the Ombudsman warned that to date only four beds of Intensive Care Units remain in health facilities in Metropolitan Lima and Callao to care for COVID-19 patients.
According to a report from the National Superintendency of Health (Susalud), it is currently available three ICU beds in EsSalud i another in a private clinic. In addition, 814 ICU beds are in use.
“We warned that, on January 13, in Lima and Callao there are 4 ICU beds with a fan for adults, according to a report from Susalud. We are facing a second wave of infections with a more contagious virus and with the 99.5% UCI service in the capital“, He indicated via Twitter.
