LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Amid a decline in coronavirus hospitalizations in Los Angeles County, health officials are focusing on how COVID-19 affects children.
As schools approach reopening for face-to-face instruction, there are now 100 cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome, a serious coronavirus-related condition.
This number represents an increase of 77% in MIS-C cases over the last month. Officials suspect it is related to a wave caused by holiday activity.
Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Austin Beutner said campuses could reopen April 9, depending on vaccine availability.
As of Monday, California will allocate approximately 10% of the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines to teachers and support staff, officials said.
