Coronavirus: remittances from Colombians abroad go to a new record, despite the pandemic – Sectors – Economy


The sending of remittances from Colombian workers from abroad in the first 11 months of the year already clearly exceeds the figure that in this same period of 2019 had arrived in the country, exactly one year in which there was a record shipments.

According to statistics consolidated by the Bank of the Republic, at the close of the eleventh month of the year, the total accumulated amount of these resources is $ 6,209.3 million, a figure higher by 1.92 percent to the accumulated in November 2019, when the sum reached 6,092.8 million dollars.

According to the issuer, in November they received $ 600 million in these remittances, a figure that is 14.7 percent higher than the 523 million that arrived in the same month in 2019.

It should be remembered that in 2019 Colombia set a record in the arrival of remittances of workers abroad with $ 6,733,000 and as trends go, this year the record would be broken again, despite the severe impact of the pandemic in April turnovers, which fell 39 percent year-on-year, placing the sum at $ 349.1 million.

The above because traditionally the month of December is usually one of the highest in shipping amounts, due to the New Year season. In fact, if this December’s remittance turn equals that of December 2017, when it reached $ 536.3 billion, the 2020 accumulated account would total $ 6.745 billion, above the historical record of 2019, $ 6,733,000.

And if the figure is similar to that reported in December last year, when money laundering totaled $ 640.3 million, the country would have entered remittances in 2020 for about $ 6,849,000, for an increase of 1.7 percent compared to 2019.
