The island has set a new daily record of positive coronavirus cases, with 116 cases from 1,634 tests.

The latter result produces a positivity rate of 7.1% for the virus.

The increase assumes there have been 370 new cases in just five days and there are now 871 people with coronavirus on the island, 49.1% of all cases recorded since the pandemic began last March.

Twenty-eight people are hospitalized for the disease, two more than the last update, and there are still six people in intensive care.

There are 20 new cases classified as local broadcasts with known contacts and 91 cases under investigation, in residents with no known links to other sources and no recent travel history.

Five of the new cases are overseas, and two residents who arrived from Atlanta last Saturday tested positive on the fourth day.

Three residents who returned from Boston, New York and London on March 30 were found infected in their Day 8 tests.

There have been 24 recoveries since the last update.

The latest update brings the island’s active cases to 871, with 843 under public health control.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, warned that there were “voice notes and messages circulating in the community and causing alarm to the people.”

He added: “I will state again, if you have any questions about how to get the Covid-19 vaccine, talk to your doctor.

“Go to reliable sources of information, coronavirus.gov.bm, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, or Public Health England, which are some of the sites that provide up-to-date and accurate information.

“We must continue to work together to stop the spread of the coronavirus and protect our most vulnerable citizens.”

Mrs. Wilson asked anyone who felt unwell to stay home, consult their doctor, and make an appointment for a test.

With the island in phase 3 of its vaccination program, he urged anyone who was not registered to enroll in the jab and wear a proper mask when attending the vaccination center.

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister David Burt said that “the number of new cases is alarming and has been caused by:

1) Continued mixing of households against the council.

2) High diffusion in workplaces (remote work b4) where people did not wear masks that transmitted infections (due to the current large amount of Wed tests). “

This Sunday, the Covid-19 call center phone lines close early at 3 p.m. to update.
