A new variant of the coronavirus is found in the bay area and is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States. This is a double mutation and is believed to be responsible for the increase in cases in India.
Just after a vacation in Hawaii, some travelers, mostly families with children in tow, arrived Saturday night in San Jose with the Big Island still in their heads.
“We’ve been playing it very safe, but there are a couple of factors that have influenced the decision. One that saw the numbers go down and then Hawaii was really safe,” Kristina Barnes said.
But, although counties in the Bay Area have reported a decline in new COVID-19 infections, a variant of the coronavirus in Santa Clara County has been confirmed here.
Stanford Health experts have confirmed a new double coronavirus mutation in at least one case here in the Bay Area and more suspects.
But it is still unclear whether this new variant is more dangerous.
“There is no concrete evidence that this double variant is more virulent or causes more serious disease,” said Dr. Dean Winslow of Stanford University.
Stanford researchers have identified a new variant in the bay area. It was first identified in India and has two mutations.
All three vaccines are said to still be effective against the Indian variant.
“Most people will produce an immune response. It may not protect against a total infection, but at least it will protect against moderate or severe illness, ”Winslow added.
The Indian variant is believed to be more transmissible, prompting health experts to bolster the essential degree of vaccination.
What he really just emphasized is the importance of vaccinating the entire American population as soon as possible.
But right now Santa Clara County said CDC does not consider this new variant a “variant of interest.”
Meanwhile, the United States recently reached a new vaccination record and reached 4 million shots in a single day.
