Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data up to January 14, 2021.

Order capacity and stay at the ICU:

  • The current availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the Southern California region is 0.0% and the state will update it daily.
  • The Order of Regional Stay at Home is in effect and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last until the availability of the ICU in the region meets or exceeds 15%.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • On January 14, seven new community outbreaks were confirmed: two in business settings, two in healthcare, one in a hotel / resort / spa, one in a faith-based setting, and one in a retail setting.
  • In the last seven days (January 8-14), 44 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger for seven or more days.
  • An outbreak of community environment is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households during the last 14 days.

Tests:

  • On January 14, 30,851 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new positive cases was 9%.
  • The average percentage of 14-day positive cases is 13.2%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The average daily test for 7 days is 27,417.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 who may or may not have symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or who have participated in holiday meetings are also urged.

Cases:

  • On January 14, 2,695 cases were reported in the county for the region as a whole, which is now 206,870.
  • 7,146 or 3.5% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,288 or 0.6% of all cases and 18% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On January 14, 32 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county. The total for the region is 2,037.
  • Between 5 and 14 January, 16 men and 16 women died.
  • Of the 32 new deaths reported, 16 people who died were 80 or older, seven were 70, four were 60, one was 50, three were 40 and one was 30.
  • 30 had underlying medical conditions, one did not have them and one had a pending medical history.
