Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data through Dec. 14.

Order capacity and stay at the ICU:

  • The current ICU capacity for the Southern California region is now 1.7% and the state will update it daily.
  • He Regional order to stay at home it is now in place and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last for at least three weeks or until the ICU capacity of the region meets or exceeds 15%. The order will be evaluated by the state after the three-week period.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • On December 14, six new outbreaks in the community were confirmed: five in business settings and one in a faith-based agency.
  • In the last seven days (December 8-14), 43 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks stays above the trigger for seven or more days.
  • An outbreak of community environment is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households during the last 14 days.

Tests:

  • On Dec. 14, 23,485 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new cases confirmed by the lab was 8%.
  • The average percentage of 14-day positive cases is 8.1%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The average daily test for 7 days is 25,213.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or participated in holiday meetings are also urged.

Cases:

  • On December 14, 1,863 new cases were reported to the county. The total for the region is 111,441.
  • 5,212 or 4.7% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,118 or 1.0% of all cases and 21.5% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On December 14, thirty-two new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the county. The total for the region is now 1,194.
  • Nine women and 23 men died between November 23 and December 14, and their ages range from the mid-1950s to the early 100s.
  • All but one of the deceased had underlying medical conditions.
