Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data up to February 15, 2021.

Status metrics:

  • The adjusted case rate calculated by the state of San Diego County is currently 22.2 cases per 100,000 residents and the region is at the Purple or Tier 1 level.
  • The positive test percentage is 6.4%, placing the county at level 2 or at the red level. Although the positivity rate of county tests qualifies it for the red level, the state uses the most restrictive metric (in this case, the adjusted case rate) and assigns the counties to that level. Therefore, the County remains at the Purple or Tier 1 level.
  • The county’s health equity metric, which analyzes test positivity for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 9.7% and is at the purple or level 1 level. This metric does not move counties to more restrictive levels, but it is necessary to advance to a less restrictive level.
  • The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23rd.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • No new outbreaks from the community were confirmed on February 15th.
  • A community outbreak was confirmed on February 14 in a business setting.
  • On February 13, eight community outbreaks were confirmed: three in distribution warehouse environments, one in a business environment, one in an emergency service, one in a food / beverage processing environment, one in a government environment. and one in a social setting. .
  • On February 12, seven community outbreaks were confirmed: five in business settings, one in a health setting, and one in a TK-12 school.
  • In the last seven days (February 9-15), 49 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks stays above the trigger for seven or more days.

Tests:

  • On February 15, 9,125 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new positive cases was 8%.

  • The average daily test for 7 days is 16,071.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel are also urged to take the test.

Cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions:

  • On February 15, 698 cases were reported in the county. The total for the region is 253,641.
  • 12,162 or 4.8% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,555 or 0.6% of all cases and 12.8% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On February 15, five new deaths were reported by COVID-19. The total of the region is 3,042.
  • Two women and three men died between December 20 and January 29.
  • Of the five deaths reported today, one person who died was 80 or older, two were 70 and two were 60.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
  • On February 14 no new deaths were recorded for COVID-19.

  • Twenty-six had underlying medical conditions and two have a pending medical history.
