Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data up to February 9, 2021.
Status metrics:
- Currently, the adjusted case rate calculated by the state of San Diego County is 34.2 cases per 100,000 residents and the region is at the Purple or Tier 1 levels.
- The positive test percentage is 9.1%, placing the county at level 1 or purple level.
- The county health equity metric, which analyzes test positivity for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 12.1% and is at the purple or level 1 level. This metric does not move counties towards more restrictive levels, but a less restrictive level is needed.
- The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th.
Community configuration outbreaks:
- Nine community outbreaks were confirmed on February 9: four in business settings, two in construction settings, one in a faith-based agency, one in a government setting, and one in a business setting.
- In the last seven days (February 3-9), 70 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
- The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger for seven or more days.
- An outbreak of community environment is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households during the last 14 days.
Tests:
- On Feb. 9, 19,461 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new positive cases was 4%.
- The average percentage of positive cases of 14 days is 6.5%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The average daily test for 7 days is 18,772.
- People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel are also urged to take the test.
Cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions:
- On February 9, 810 cases were reported in the county. The total for the region is 248,861.
- 11,011 or 4.4% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,529 or 0.6% of all cases and 13.9% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- On February 9, fifty-one deaths were recorded for COVID-19. The total for the region is 2,904.
- Sixteen women and 35 men died between January 9 and February 8.
- Of the 51 new deaths reported today, 17 people who died were 80 or older, 12 were 70, 12 were 60, eight were 50 and two were 40.
- Forty-eight had underlying medical conditions, one no, and two had a pending medical history.
