A new study in India found that people who wear glasses are three times less likely to get the virus.
Researchers suggest it’s because they are less likely to touch their eyes, which can be a major route of infection.
A previous study in China found that only 5% of those hospitalized with COVID wore glasses, while about 30% of the population wore glasses.
The study was conducted last summer in the northern district of Kanpur Dehat. It involved 304 patients between the ages of 10 and 80.
According to the report, all of them had coronavirus symptoms and about 60 were considered glass carriers for a long time.
The study’s authors noted that COVID-19 infection through the eyes “is extremely rare,” but said the virus drops can easily go from the eyes to the nose or mouth.
