COVID Vaccine: Wrigley Field could host a mass vaccination site; The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been sent to U.S. workers in the United States in O’Hare

CHICAGO (WLS): More aid has arrived as Chicago continues its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city of Chicago on Wednesday received more than 22,000 doses of the CDC Johnson & Johnson vaccine and is sending part of that supply to the two largest airlines at O’Hare International Airport. Both United and America Airlines will begin inoculating eligible employees at the airport on Thursday. Neither carrier would say how many doses they received.

And while United said it will vaccinate Chicago employees who are at least 65 years old or are members of flight crews, American said all of its O’Hare workers would be eligible.

Illinois state officials said they were expecting most of the 83,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. They are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday and be distributed at mass vaccination sites.

Meanwhile, appointments at the United Center vaccination site open Thursday.

To register for an appointment at the United Center, visit www.zocdoc.com/vaccine or call the Multilingual Hotline at (312) 746-4835 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

And Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, is being considered a possible location for a mass vaccination site, confirm both Cubs and Advocate Aurora Health.

A Cubs spokesman said they are in talks with the city about opening a site in Wrigley. Although the shots would not be fired at the field itself, some indoor and outdoor areas could be used.

Advocate considers Wrigley Field to be a convenient option due to its proximity to the CTA.

Puppies say that if asked, it would be an honor to play a role in ending the pandemic.

If Wrigley becomes a vaccination site, shots could be fired at the indoor enclosures, the outdoor plaza and possibly the player’s parking lot.

HEALTH STATEMENT AURORA LAWYER:
As a leader in community health care, we are committed to doing our best to carry out the vaccination process as quickly, equitably and safely as possible.
We are proud to collaborate on a possible Wrigley Field mass vaccination site, which would potentially be authorized by the City of Chicago. If the site is designated and supplies for the city’s vaccine are available, Advocate Aurora Health would provide clinical staff and technical infrastructure.
This location is considered because it is a convenient option for people who do not own cars as it is easily accessible from the CTA. This is part of our continued focus on collaboration to ensure that residents of disproportionately affected communities have access to the vaccine as supplies become available.
We continue to believe that the vaccine is the best way to end this pandemic and we continue to use current and very limited supplies for our most vulnerable patients over 65 years of age.
