Colorado officials said the man, who had no history of travel, is isolated in Albert County.
“Public health officials are conducting a thorough investigation,” a governor’s office press release said. “The individual does not have close contacts identified so far, but public health officials are working to identify other cases and potential contacts through comprehensive follow-up interviews.”
The variants are the same virus, regardless of their small genetic differences.
SARS-COV-2 is a respiratory virus, that is, it is transmitted through drops, so masks and social distancing still work to slow down transmission, regardless of the variant.
Earlier this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the variant variety is something “to be followed very carefully.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the new variant of the virus is 70% more transmissible than existing strains and appears to be driving the rapid spread of new infections in London and the south of England.
“There is no evidence to indicate that she is more lethal or causes more serious illness,” she said, or that vaccines will be less effective against her.
