Cristiano Ronaldo accepts an impressive return from Man United

Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed a sensational return to Manchester United, the club announced Friday, in an agreement of 15 million euros with a possible additional 8 million euros, according to ESPN sources.

The 36-year-old has returned to Old Trafford 12 years after leaving the club to join Real Madrid and will sign a two-year contract.

United posted on Twitter a collage of Ronaldo from his days of previous games at the club along with the words, “Welcome home, @Cristiano.”

A statement from United said: “Manchester United are happy to confirm that the club have reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, provided that personal conditions, a visa and a doctor are agreed.

“Cristiano, a five-time Golden Ball winner, has so far won more than 30 major trophies during his career, including five Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

“In his first period for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games. Everyone at the club hopes to receive Cristiano again in Manchester.”

The Portugal international left for Real Madrid in 2009 for a world fee of Β£ 80 million, but will now make an emotional return.

ESPN reported in June that Ronaldo’s representatives were measuring the interest of some of the best European clubs ahead of his possible departure from Juventus this summer after three years in Italy.

Manchester City were one of the clubs that looked into the possibility, but on Friday sources told ESPN they had dropped out of the race.

Rio Ferdinand has confirmed that he has spoken to his former United team-mate asking him not to move to the Etihad Stadium.

Talks between Ronaldo, United and Juventus began on Thursday night.

Ronaldo did not train with Juventus on Friday and instead left Italy on a private jet. Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri later confirmed he had asked to leave the club before the transfer deadline on 31 August.

Ronaldo is one of the most decorated footballers in the world and has won league titles in England, Spain and Italy.

He has won the Champions League five times, including four with Real Madrid, and has won the Golden Ball five times. He was the first world player of the year as a world player in 2008.
