Czech researchers have been working for several months on this monastery, built in 1187. They recently discovered a secret passage leading to a room they call “the treasure room.”
According to experts, this place was used to store strange elements found during the incursions of Hussite troops in the early 15th century.

“Because the Hussites destroyed the archive, there was no information that this was here,” ‘Jiří Sindelar’, a participant in the discovery, told the Czech News Agency (CTK).
In that secret room was where they found a wooden box adorned with a 21-carat gold cross, silver ornaments and with the inscription “IR” (These letters could be the Latin abbreviation for Jesus Rex, meaning ‘Jesus is King’). Inside was the key.

Dozens of keys have already been discovered that are related to the crucifixion of Jesus
The clues that have led researchers to think that the key was used in the crucifixion of Jesus are the wood with which the box was made and the gold embedded in it.
The Czech media ‘Idnes has indicated that the researchers established that the wooden part belongs to the period between 260 and 416 AD
In addition to that, during the Middle Ages gold was an extremely rare metal and was only used in the manufacture of completely exceptional things for its rarity, price and importance..

Was the key really used in the crucifixion of Jesus?
Investigators have not yet ascertained with complete certainty that the key came from the “True Cross” on which the messiah was crucified.
While the discovery could be of great importance to archaeological science, further studies are still needed to determine the exact age of the object. For this reason, the authenticity of the key will be verified by other scientific experts at some point next year.
In dialogue with ‘CTK’ they noted that it is a larger find than the reliquary of St. Mauro: a large gold box with fragments of the bodies of Saints St. Mauro, St. John the Baptist and St. Timothy.

One of the reasons they are skeptical about the finding is that dozens of keys have already been discovered that are related to the crucifixion of Jesus.
