The Cuban actor and oral narrator Daniel Alberto Hernández Acosta died in Havana, as reported this Tuesday by the Agencia Artística de Artes Escénicas (ACT).
The agency he did not specify in his note of condolences the exact cause or date of death.
“With his death, the performing arts in Cuba lose a professional of extraordinary quality, with infinite nobility and simplicity”, states the text about the actor, who was a member of the group Teatre de la Paraula, a company that has been organizing the International Festival “Cuentos para una Añeja Ciudad” in Havana for years, and puts on a repertoire of shows for children and adults.
“Daniel joins the trail of artists who have said goodbye in 2020 to the sadness of all. The group of workers of the institution wishes to send to their relatives and friends the most heartfelt condolences for this irreparable loss ”, concludes the institutional note.
In recent months, Daniel Alberto Hernández had presented the space together with his partner, also an actor and stage director, Osvaldo Manuel Pérez Peñalver. “Cuento por la vida”, in order to carry out theater in homes, in times of confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The news has been welcomed with regret even by colleagues and friends of Daniel Alberto Hernández.
Member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and of the National Council of the Performing Arts in Cuba, Daniel Alberto Hernández Acosta was deputy director of the International Short Story Festival for an Aged City and is featured in a significant number of national and international Stage Oral Narrative festivals.
Among the festivals in which he participated, the International Festival of Oral Narration in Zacatecas (Mexico) stood out; the International Festival Cuenteros y Cuentistas y Hablapalabra (Mexico); the International Words to the Wind Festival in Celaya (Guanajuato, Mexico); the Festival the International of Storytellers of Tucuman (Argentina), among others. He won the National Juglar Award 2004 and 2006.
