Cuban actor Iván Francisco Colás Costa dies

The ACTUAR Agency confirmed this Wednesday on social media the death due to respiratory arrest of Cuban actor Iván Colás Costa, which occurred on August 31 at Guantánamo.

Born in Caimanera in 1946, after graduating from the Provincial School of Oriental Art in 1964, Colás began his career as an actor in theater. Shortly afterwards he would appear on Cuban radio and television.

During the 60s and 70s he played leading roles in very popular radio and television programs for both adults and children.

He also acted in several Cuban films, among them The Man of Maisinicú (1972) i Fruits in the Coffee (2003), which won first prize at the Poor Film Festival in the city of Gibara.

He received the ACT ACT Award for the Work of Life.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the agency reports that, according to a telephone conversation with the actor’s sister, Angelina Colás, in the province of Guantánamo, where the actor was residing with his relatives in the last years, “his death was due to heart complications that ended in respiratory arrest.”

In another article published in the newspaper Workers, And signed by his friend and neighbor Ana Margarita González, ensures that Colás Costa “lost the battle against the Covid-19 on the night of August 31.”

The journalist also recalled the actor’s interest in the story and his admiration for American singer Elvis Presley; whom he represented on the tables on several occasions.

Other Cubans also shared memories of Colás on social media.

“I met Ivan in the filming of Maisinicú’s man where he was one of the American military on the ship where Mario Borges and Carretero are being taken prisoner, from that moment we were great friends, a sensible loss, “Luis Lacosta said.

Radial director Ramon Espígul Menéndez, for his part, pointed out. “I already saw him perform before joining Ràdio Rebel in 1972. There we met and established a beautiful relationship of friendship and work, because I had the opportunity to direct it in some dramatized programs that I directed “Very flexible and disciplined. He was always smiling, at least with me there was never a yes or a no. I remember he was a fan of Elvis Presley. Forever Ivan, Rest in Peace.”

At the time of his death, the actor was 75 years old.

His remains were buried yesterday in the Guantánamo cemetery in the morning.
