Cuban doctor Alexander Jesús Figueredo embroidered the popular slogan Homeland and Life on his white robe to practice the profession, according to the Bayamese doctor posted on his social networks.
Facebook images show the white robe of a specialist in urology and comprehensive general medicine with the popular phrase embroidered on the back, while the front displays the logo of the Patriotic Association of Cubans in Ecuador.
“In case of any doubt about my word … my robe is ready for the tail of freedom … HOMELAND AND LIFE,” Alexander Jesus wrote to accompany the images of his robe.
The slogan Homeland and Life, from the well-known musical theme of Yotuel Romero, Gent de Zona, Descemer Bo, el Funky and Maykel Osorbo, has become the favorite motto of those who demand the end of the dictatorship in Cuba, while the Cuban government has severely punished and repressed those who defend and reproduce it.
Dr. Alexander Jesús Figueredo has gained prominence in the Cuban independent media since February he denounced the death of his parents due to the scarcity of medicines and resources at Manzanillo Hospital, In the province of Granma.
“What good is being a doctor, being a power for the world, if we don’t have syringes, gloves, probes, medicine, electro, ambulances, bunks, sphygmomanometer, sutures …”, Figueredo denounced earlier when referring to the ‘Hospital Celia Sánchez Manduley, of Manzanillo.
The doctor has also been critical in relation to the island’s government on social media, where he pointed out the mismanagement of the state for leaving Cuban citizens without options and questioned why he continued to resist.
“The Cuban works for a salary that lasts at least 10 days, that is spent on crap because food, the real thing, does not exist; because in travel they can not think, because they can not aspire to dress, because to please their children does not they can dream. And they tighten, and they keep tightening and we resist and I wonder, ‘Resisting for what? Is there something after that?’ ”he wrote on Facebook.
It is not clear what the retaliation against the doctor’s action may be, but the Cuban state has dedicated since acts of repudiation and military operations to violent arrests for those who reproduce the phrase publicly.
In February the authorities organized a act of repudiation against activist Anyell Valdés, One of the barracks in San Isidro, during which they transferred the perimeter fence of domicile and vandalized with blue paint the facade of the house to cover a poster of the Mother country and Life.
