Many Cubans have reacted to the death of renowned filmmaker Enrique Pineda Barnet, who died this Tuesday, January 12th at the age of 87 in Havana.

Actor Hector Noas, who accompanied the filmmaker until the last moment, has not made any posts about the loss. In September, Noas was asking for help on social media to get a medicine that Pineda urgently needed.

Noas explained that the filmmaker had suffered several stroke events, which kept him in a delicate state of health. However, the cause of death so far is unknown.

Pineda Barnet was a director, screenwriter and writer. One of his most remembered works in Cuban cinema is the film The Beauty of the Alhambra (1989). In 2006, he received the National Film Award in 2006 for his work as a whole.

Ten years later, he won the Choir of Honor during the 38th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, in recognition of all his filmography, which includes more than twenty titles including feature films and short fiction, as well as documentaries.
