the Chicago Cubs and the free agent central gardener, Jake Marisnick, they have managed to reach a contract agreement, Reported priemro Jon Morosi of MLB.com from his official Twitter account. The details of the signing are not yet known, although figures and its duration are expected to be announced later.
Marisnick, who will turn 30 at the end of March, he has spent most of his career playing for the Houston StarsBut he was with the Mets in 2020. A couple of hamstring injuries limited the fast fielder to just 16 games last tournament, though Marisnick was quite productive in 34 appearances on the plate, hitting 333 / 353/604 with a pair of homers and three doubles and five runs produced.
This level of production, of course, should not be expected in the future. Marisnick has been a below average batsman for most of his time in the Major Leagues, although he has made up for this below average batting with a well above average speed and excellent work with the gloves.
Marisnick’s speed slowed down a bit in 2020, although the pair of hamstring muscle strains certainly contributed. Statcast measured its sprint speed at 29.2 feet per second from 2016-19, but reduced it to 28.2 last year. He also ranked among the top 20 gardeners in the game on Statcast’s Outs Above Average each year since 2016-19, and has been seen as an elite defender.
