CVS gives an incorrect dose of COVID-19 vaccine to patients :: WRAL.com

– A CVS in Massachusetts contacts patients who received the COVID-19 vaccine instead to inform them of a dosing error.

The pharmacy said a limited number of patients who received the Modern vaccine on Monday were inadvertently given lower doses than they should have received.

Carol Kennedy Hurley said she still shakes her head after the pharmacist notified her of the dosing error.

“You know, you’re in shock,” Hurley said.

CVS said a limited number of patients who received the vaccine Monday at the Central Street location received 0.3 milliliters of the Modern vaccine instead of the normal dose of 0.5 milliliters.

“So I guess the basic word is trust,” Hurley said. “That’s what it’s really about, and from the beginning with all this pandemic, who do you trust?”

Doctors say that despite the mess, there is no reason for patients like Hurley to receive an extra dose and he can still get the second vaccine next month as planned.

“We know that because we are human, there can be mistakes, especially when we try to vaccinate them with two different vaccines,” said Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vasquez.

CVS issued a written statement that says in part, “We have contacted all affected patients to apologize and answer any questions they may have” and “we reported it to the relevant regulatory agencies.”

Hurley said no one apologized to him.

“They gave me the information and it was really indifferent,” he said.

CVS said it has since implemented changes to prevent future setbacks.
