Cyberpunk 2077 Dev punishes the doubt about the PS5 version that will be released this year

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED has questioned whether it can still release the native PlayStation 5 version of its latest role-playing game this year. Since the original PS4 release, a better version for current-generation consoles has always been aimed at a release sometime in the second half of 2021. Still, speaking as part of the H1 2021 results call from the company (reported by VGC), Michał Nowakowski explained that while the team still aims to release the PS5 version this year, the production schedule could easily change.

He said: “The goal is to release the next generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 later this year. At the same time, considering the lessons we learned over the past year and considering that this project is still in development, we cannot say with certainty that the production schedule will not change. ” Nowakowski goes on to say that the next PS5 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is being developed by Saber Interactive, is in the same position. You are aiming for a release this year, but no promises can be made.

“As with Cyberpunk 2077, our goal is to launch this game as late as 2021. However, similarly, the development process is underway and we can’t be absolutely dead, for sure the release schedule won’t change.” Of course, COVID-19 continues to impact game development while studios work from home.

In any case, CD Projekt RED seems to be trying to be realistic with its planning. Both the PS5 versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remain version-oriented this year, but problems could push them to 2022. More than a third of the development team is working on editing PS5 and also in the patches of the original title, while the rest works on Cyberpunk 2077 DLC and other projects.

“For now, we’re definitely trying both titles at the end of 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific right now.”
