After a month of joking social media, the little team behind it ExeKiller released a full revealing trailer for his next action-adventure game earlier today, and believe me when I say it is a lot.
ExeKiller marks the debut of Krakow-based indie developer Paradark Studio, which plans to abandon the game Steam “When ready”. It seems to be a trendy cyberpunk outlet, remixing the aesthetic set in classic properties like Blade Runner with a clearly western atmosphere. The game definitely looks beautiful, but what I really like ExeKiller it is his devotion to sounding as silly and cunning as possible.
“In a world where there are no rules, the only law that matters is a loaded pistol,” snores a man who makes a decent (albeit somewhat scammed) impression of Clint Eastwood to open the trailer, adding later: ” Sometimes I kill for money, sometimes I kill for … justice. “
A random guy even begs the main character to “make my day,” echoing Eastwood’s turn as “Dirty Harry” Callahan. It’s ridiculous.
If you still don’t understand, ExeKiller refers to a very serious bounty hunter on a very serious mission. He wanders abandoned diners, recklessly drives through dusty post-apocalyptic landscapes and struggles along the tops of moving trains to get the job done. And once the rewards are secured, he collects data chips known as SOULS from his targets for a cast of shady runners with irrefutable offers.

Oh, and the game takes place in New York in 1998 somehow. I’m still coping that reveal, believe me.
Aside from all the jokes, this seems like a pretty ambitious undertaking. He Paradark Studio official website describes ExeKiller as a player-based story with a lot of playback depending on the decisions you make. The developers also promise a “constantly changing environment” with diverse biomes, a dynamic weather system, and radioactive solar storms.
ExeKiller is one of those launches that is so silly open that it has been completed to land back in the cool zone. There is something charming about the ubiquitous application of decades-old troops that, frankly, are overly excessive at this point in a very serious way. It’s a pure distillation of the concept of “badass” seen from the lens of a 70s exploitation film and I can’t get enough of it.
I’m not sure if the developers are kidding, but it’s almost better that they aren’t. All I know is that I’m going to do the crap ExeKiller when he is finally released.
