Popular Cuban singer Dagoberto Plans Despaigne, one of the leading vocalists in the Karachi Orchestra, died at the age of 64 this Wednesday morning in the city of Santiago de Cuba where he resided, due to complications from liver cirrhosis.
Plans to die at the Provincial Hospital Saturnino Lora, where he was admitted for 11 days due to liver disease, but could not overcome the severity of his health, according to the official newspaper Serra Mestra, Fernando Alvarez Caula , director of the “Karachi”.

The artist, characterized by his usual use of dark mirrors, would turn 65 in June and has been part of the popular Karachi Orchestra since 1982. Almost all the best-known songs of the Santiago group have their voice.
The newspaper Serra Mestra emphasizes that his death is a blow to the group in particular, and in general to the national culture. “It’s a hard blow for the group, because we have lost a leading vocalist; it also loses the culture of Santiago de Cuba and the country,” said Alvarez Caula, according to Santiago journalist Cuscó Tarradell.
The Karachi Orchestra was founded in 1976 in Santiago de Cuba, highlighting among its main members the renowned saxophonist Pablo Moya. It has shared scene with several of the most important salseros of the world: Oscar of Leon, king Ruiz, the Niche Group, the Guayacán Orchestra, Celia Cruz, among others.
