Daily COVID infections are up more than 300 percent from last Labor Day weekend, USA Today reported, citing data from Johns Hopkins University.
According to the data, COVID-19 cases have increased by 316 percent since Labor Day 2020 and COVID-19-related daily deaths are double that.
Hhospitalizations are also up 158 percent compared to Labor Day weekend a year ago, according to Health and Human Services data.
The massive number of hospitalizations is causing many states across the country to fall short in relation to the number of ICU beds available to patients, according to USA Today.
The executive director of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Risa Moriarity, told the newspaper that her hospital is experiencing a “logjam” with patients placed in the aisle beds and also treated in the triage rooms.
