As the number of Covid cases in the United States increases, the country is also administering vaccines designed to prevent the spread of the virus at the fastest rate in history. Cases are rising in 27 states, and Michigan continues to lead the nation in new daily cases per capita.
US Covid Cases
After more than 70,000 cases of coronavirus reported Monday, the seven-day average of nine daily cases in the U.S. is 68,960, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. This figure has increased by 7% compared to a week ago.
Michigan again reported the highest level of new daily cases of Covid per capita, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins data. On Monday, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, said the state should “shut things down” as it deals with the increase and an increase in vaccinations against Covid -19 will not stop the spread of the virus.
Michigan records nearly 7,300 daily cases on average, close to the state’s highest pandemic, which topped 8,300 daily in December. Hospitalizations and deaths are also on the rise in the state.
US Covid deaths
The average of seven days of deaths per Covid reported daily in the U.S. is 962, according to data from Johns Hopkins.
The latest trend in the number of deaths is affected by the massive release of data from about 1,800 deaths from Oklahoma, which occurred because the Oklahoma State Department of Health is moving to the guidelines of data information in accordance with CDC requirements. All of these deaths are currently reported on April 7, even if they occurred earlier.
Prior to this reporting anomaly, the daily number of Covid deaths in the United States had been down from record levels seen in January.
US vaccines are administered
CDC data show 2.6 million doses of vaccines administered Monday, bringing the average seven-day dose administered in the United States to a record 3.2 million a day.
The Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday it is urging states to temporarily stop using Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine “with great caution” after six U.S. women developed a rare blood clotting disorder. .
“At this time, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare,” the FDA said in a joint statement with the CDC.
Share of vaccinated population in the US
More than 120 million people, or 36% of the U.S. population, have received one or more doses of Covid vaccine. According to the CDC, more than one in 5 Americans is completely vaccinated.
Almost 80% of those 65 and older have received at least one dose and 62% are fully vaccinated.
