Dane Co. becomes the first to reach the new milestone of the COVID-19 vaccine

MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – Dane County reached a new milestone against the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday and became the first county in the state to reach it.

The COVID-19 state control panel shows that Dane County reached 70% of residents who have completed their series of COVID-19 vaccines. Just over 73% of residents have received at least the first dose.

Door County is the closest to Dane in terms of gunfire, with 67.6% of residents completing their vaccine series.

Dane County surpassed seven out of ten residents with at least one COVID-19 shot on July 26, meaning it took more than a month and a half to reach the same metric with a completed series.

In Wisconsin as a whole, 55.7% have received at least one dose and 52.4% have completed their series.

Compared to two weeks ago, there was a drop in vaccines administered statewide last week, as the Department of Health Services noted 49,586 shots. Last week included some holidays, Labor Day.

So far this week, 602 vaccines have been administered.

Cases of Delta variants in Wisconsin outnumber Alpha

Data from the Wisconsin State Hygiene Laboratory show that of the COVID-19 cases tested for variants, the Delta variant has officially become the most common strain in the state.

As of Monday, 3,954 of Delta’s highly transmissible variant have been identified throughout the state of Badger. Of the variants, Alpha had been the most common since January, at least. So far 3,577 Alpha cases have been discovered.

Delta accounted for 98% of cases tested for variants last month.

DHS confirmed 665 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state’s total to more than 681,000. The seven-day moving average has also fallen back to 1,482.

One person has died from the virus, DHS notes.
