New York Giants head coach Joe Judge clarified one of the hottest questions of the low season on Wednesday afternoon, and named Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback in 2021 and apparently beyond.
In fact, the judge even took things a step further, racking up praise for the 23-year-old just six months after refusing to say his name.
“I think he has demonstrated a level of toughness, leadership and knowledge on the ground that gives us confidence to put him out and build with Daniel,” the judge told reporters. “This guy has definitely earned my respect. From the beginning I did it very hard in many ways and it has not blinked.
“Daniel Jones is our quarterback.”
Not surprisingly, Jones was not at all pleased with this vote of confidence and will approach 2021 in the same way he does every day: competitively.
“I’ve learned a lot from the coach judge and I’ve enjoyed working with him,” Jones said. “My job is to win it every day, and that’s the approach you have to take in this league. Come in every day, earn your job, work hard, do what you’re asked to do, improve as a player every day, and that’s what I’m focused on. I will continue to do so. My focus is on this week, making sure we are so well prepared to be on Sunday against Baltimore. “
As for Baltimore, Jones admits he is pushing to get back and feel better, but he failed to guarantee he would enter the field on Sunday night.
“It depends on the technical judge, the coaches and the doctors. They will make that decision this week, “Jones said.” Like I said, I feel like I’m getting better. Viously, obviously, I wanted to play last week. let them make that decision and obviously be open and honest with how I feel and make sure I’m communicating well with them. This is my job, take it on a day-to-day basis and make sure I’m improving “.
