When I saw Dark deity appeared during the continued outpouring of Gamescom sequences, I wrote it as a turn-based RPG of competent-looking, albeit somewhat uninspired, turns. Well, here’s something fun I learned today: Dark deity it’s actually a tactical game. And, based on the latest trailers, it looks perfect for the Switch. Check it out for yourself:
Before I asked, yes, for lunch, I ate my words. They will also check my eyes.
Dark deity attracted moderate attention earlier this year thanks to an animated Kickstarter which promised a role-playing strategy in the line of classics like Emblem of fire i Final Fantasy tactics. The campaign was, by all accounts, a success. Sponsors exceeded the goal six times, giving more than $ 74,000 for a $ 12,000 goal. Approximately 1,500 sponsors contributed to the level that makes your name on the credits. So expect a long final crawl.
Earlier this summer, Dark deity released by surprise on Steam, where it has since garnered more than 1,000 “mostly positive” reviews. Last week, during a wave of news from Gamescom, developer Sword & Ax dit would come to Switch sometime next year.
KotakuEthan Gach, who has played a bit on the PC, told me Dark deity “It nails the feeling of the old school Emblem of fire fight so far. ”That’s what I like to hear.

If we look at it more closely, it is clear that this Dark deity comes off Emblem of fire good faith. There are an overwhelming number of classes on display, with more than 50, including traditional disciplines like “archer” and “duelist,” along with more esoteric options like “increase” and “pursuer,” to choose from. The maps are shown from a general perspective, rather Emblem of fire games of past generations than the isometric onesish approach in 2019 Three houses. The battles take place in 2D, in magnificent and distinctive pixels. You can also establish links between characters over time and advance in those ranks using a letter rating system, as well as Emblem of fire.
But it is also, and I am sorry to regret the good name of Emblem of fire with a buzzword: about the ~ vibra ~. The character designs! The sweeping crescendos! I mean, hey, there are characters named Vesta and Garrick and Alden. These are basically original names from the first edition of The 100,001+ best baby names in Garreg Mach tom.
Although I’m generally a fan of the recent ones Emblem of fire games, I have a huge fondness for the main version of Switch series, Fire emblem: three houses. This is not just because it is a game of tactics at all times.
In 2019, shortly after Three houses I went out, a few friends, and took a trip to Greece, where some of my family live. Although I obviously did typical holiday things, like swimming, dancing, jumping on the island and going down enough ouzo, that if I detailed a specific amount would make me say goodbye to the place, much of this trip is painted by Fire emblem: three houses. I played it on the plane. I played it on some of the longest ferry trips. During an apocalyptic hangover, I spent most of a curly afternoon in the air-conditioned crunchy hotel, backing away with Claude and the rest of the Golden Deer. On the flight home, I experienced the big twist of the game. I counted on him coming back soon enough, because, you know, family.
Then the world went to shit.
I haven’t been back since. I haven’t seen these family members since.
So far, even though I’m not on the road and I have easy access to Switch docks and HDTVs, I still play Three houses tomorrow. It is a small comfort. Games, and let no one tell you otherwise, can be as transporty as a solid novel or movie. Even if only through weak reminiscence, Three houses it reminds me of better days. So yeah, I’m really looking forward to playing another one Emblem of fire a Switch, or at least something similar.
