Dave Chappelle has canceled scheduled performances at Stubbs in Austin, Texas after testing positive for COVID-19, TMZ reports and Chappelle’s representative has confirmed to Pitchfork. The canceled dates were among a handful that the comic had booked this weekend. On Wednesday he had already performed the first of Austin’s concerts. Tickets are being refunded.
“Chappelle has been performing social distance shows in Ohio since June 2020 safely and moved them to Austin during the winter,” says a statement from Chappelle’s representative. “Chappelle implemented COVID-19 protocols that included rapid tests for the public and daily tests for him and his team. His diligent tests allowed him to respond immediately in quarantine, thus mitigating the spread of the virus. Chappelle is asymptomatic. “
Chappelle began organizing socially distanced outdoor performances in his current hometown, Ohio, in June. Among her guests were Common, Tiffany Haddish, John Mayer and several others. After organizing a major party to celebrate July 4, Chappelle passed the first post-election episode of Saturday night live in early November.
Earlier this week, Chappelle was photographed without a mask with Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and Grimes. Grimes posted his own recent experience with the virus on January 9th.
