David Hogg drops his pillow to return to activism

He must have slept there.

David Hogg, a survivor of the shooting in Parkland, says he is stepping down from his role at the pillow company he launched to compete with conservative MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and would return to activism.

Hogg, 20 years old, announced Saturday on Twitter “He waived and released all shares, any property and any control of Good Pillow LLC” with immediate effect.

“The reasons for my departure depend entirely on me and my own personal commitments and I really don’t want (co-founder William LeGate) anything but the best,” he wrote.

“Over the next few months, I will take some time to focus on my studies at the university and move forward with the gun violence prevention movement with March For Our Lives and personally.”

Hogg, who was a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the 2018 massacre, said in early February that he was working with LeGate, a tech entrepreneur, at a rival pillow company.

He claimed that “progressive competition” could stop Lindell from working, who hawks patented foam pads in infomercials.

The so-called pillow fight had been received with ambivalence by Lindell himself, who had replied to Axios that “there is nothing wrong with competition that does not infringe someone’s patent.”

About a week later, Hogg announced that he would take a leave of absence from his board membership position for March For Our Lives.

In his Saturday tweets, the Harvard University student said he realized he could not devote 100% to his pillow business because of other commitments, including school, family and his activism.

“The reasons for my departure rest entirely on me and my own personal commitments and I really wish Will nothing more than the best,” he wrote.

He said he would leave it to LeGate to fulfill his vision of building “an ethical company that produces products that people need, while creating good jobs that pay unions and at the same time supporting social causes.”
