Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Italian Jorginho (Chelsea) and Belgian N’Golo Kanté (Chelsea) were the players nominated this Thursday at UEFA to compete for the Best Player of the Year award. the 2020/21 season.
The winner of this award will be announced at the draw ceremony for the group stage of the 2021/22 Champions League, which will take place on Thursday 26 August at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul (Turkey).
The final list of three candidates was selected by a jury composed of the 24 selectors the combined participated in Euro 2020 and the 80 coaches of the clubs that were in the group stages of the European Cup and the Europa League. In addition, 55 journalists from each of the UEFA member federations, selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, also took part.
Finally, coaches and journalists were asked to select a list of three players by assigning five, three and one point to each of them respectively. The final result was based on the total number of votes cast by coaches and journalists. Coaches were not allowed to vote for players from their own team.
