Deadly August: 236 people killed by COVID so far this month in Puerto Rico

A new executive order will be announced next Monday by Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia for the management of the coronavirus, COVID-19, which in August has increased infections, hospitalizations and deaths.

In today’s report, Saturday, August 28, 2021, the Department reported another 19 deaths due to viruses, with the Mayagüez region being the most affected with seven deaths.

This high number brings the total death toll to 2,823.

According to data from the Department of Health, in August alone, a total of 236 people have died from the virus, which arrived on the island in March of this year. 2020.

The most impacted days of the month with loss of life are August 26, with 17 people, and the 18th and 19th with 16 every day.

To date, an average of 685 new positive cases of COVID have been reported, identified between the two tests, with 382 molecular and 303 antigens. With these new cases, the total number of people who have been infected with COVID on the island increased to 140,681 with molecular testing and 28,207 with antigen testing.

On the hospitalizations, the same are in 491, being 460 of adults and 31 minors. Of these, 114 are in intensive care, 113 adults and one minor.
