Deepening into the biggest season of Destiny 2’s chosen secret

I think the general consensus for Destiny 2’s chosen season is that it’s starting pretty well. Maybe not necessarily with the activities, as Battlegrounds is fine, but nothing particularly innovative. But definitely when it comes to loot chase, with lots of good new items to look for and a wide range of places to find them.

We know a little bit about what’s to come this roadmap season. Two new battlefields and a new Strike, but also a promised exotic Tex Mechanica Mass.

The only thing that has been publicly revealed about the exotic search is that it has something to do with the ship seen below, as it was labeled as part of the “exotic search” in the press dossier. But that’s it, there are no other public details of Bungie herself.

But I actually wanted to get into the datamining process today, because I think it will generate a significant amount of hype if you at least know the approximate limits of what’s going on here. If you prefer to know nothing, I understand and you can go back. I won’t get into story spoilers, but I’ll talk about the nature of the upcoming mission and what you get to do it.

The spoilers follow:

This information comes from the Bungie API and people like Ginsor i Parisito. The following are general outlines of what we know about the mission:

  • The headline is that supposedly Tex Mechanica’s next mission may be something on the scale of the Whisper or Zero Hour mission. Although the Hawkmoon dam farm had some elements, they were still mostly existing areas where we had already been. This Cabal ship should be a completely new space.
  • It’s also pretty great space, as far as we know, indicates the kind of extensive mission we would expect from a mission like Whisper or Zero Hour. It also has the basis of “doing the mission first and unlocking the director’s access to it,” as we’ve seen with these missions in the past.
  • Within the mission, there is a kind of “open hidden memories” to move forward on something faster, which may indicate the search for a catalyst or a ship.
  • The enemies on board appear to be both Cabal and Scorn, indicating some sort of conflict there, which would explain the strange appearance of a random Screeb in the season of the chosen trailer.
  • There are some directions through upcoming weekly challenges May access the ship itself as early as the third week, but the exotic search may not begin until week 9. Therefore, there may be some component of the story that is not not more a secret mission, although the secret mission will take place here.
  • Tex Mechanica’s exotic is Dead Man’s Tale, a new exploratory rifle, not First Curse as many were predicting. I still don’t know what its exotic benefits are. The following image is the pistol with an ornament placed.

In short, there is something quite large that seems very likely to be on the zero hour scale, even as far as we saw recently for the Zero Hour-ish Hawkmoon farm search and will involve Scorn, which we haven’t really dealt with since Forsaken. Who taught them to fly spaceships?

Anyway, I’m not sorry to know the above information, as all it does is make me feel really publicized about what’s to come. We may start to see this boat appear in two weeks, but if not, everything will come later in the season. Stay tuned.
